  • New Short Story

Large new post coming.. Rewriting an old favorite of mine so that it fits an apocalyptic theme

  • The Red Line Bus Stop

The cold sat and ate upon my fingers like rabid dogs.  Nibbling away at the nerves as quickly as they could as I stood outside the bus stop waiting for the five o’clock Red line.  I had unfortunately forgotten my gloves and my pockets were full of rocks I had collected from the quarry down the road.
I don’t know why I had such a fascination with rocks, it has been the same way since I was a boy.  My addiction to rocks has caused me more then a few problems and this was not the worse of it.
The Red line bus was a two story monster on six wheels.  The driver sat on the bottom right side behind a large front window.  The doors, two of them, sat on the left side.  One next to the driver and the other near the back.  It stopped at the bus stop with a jerk and an angry burst of smoke from a metal pipe in the back.  I shook my hands, willing the dogs from my fingers, picked up my duffel and stepped inside.

  • While trying to write for City of Zombies I realized that my first draft stopped way short of my needed word count.. well it stopped a couple days ago.  I wrote my first post without the guidance of my previous story.  It went well.  I have an idea where I need to go so I’m not scared or running out.

  • Midnight Snack

Peering through the windows of the garage Kali could see it was dark.  A fluorescent light flickered highlighting a shadow.  The shadow paced in front of the garage door. “Where did they go,” said one voice speaking to others somewhere outside.  Kali could hear the muffled whispers of other people talking and walking on the tin roof of the garage.
“We have to find them, Aaron is already pissed we wasted another day getting off on zombie blood, said another as he approached the shadow in front of the garage.  “They gotta be in the garage,” insisted the first shadow.  Kali’s heart jumped but the other seemed to dismiss it.  “No, they would of broke into the house first.  We check that.”  Kali watched both shadows move away from the garage door.  She could then hear them upon the roof of the house.  The windows on the second-story were unblocked.  Kali heard the windows break.  They entered the house then screams escaped into night air.  Chills raced throughout Kali’s body and she fell to the cold concrete floor. She looked over to Erik but he was completely unconscious.  Another situation left to deal with alone.  Laughter erupted after the screaming.  A chilling realization that these creatures didn’t care.  Kali stepped forward and stood under the light of the moon.  Her forehead barely reached the high windows on the garage door but she could see the vampire walking upon the roof of the house.  A pair of vampire paced outside the busted second-story windows as more screams erupted.  Kali looked over to see Erik stirring but didn’t wake.   The nurse still lay staring at Kali with her infected gaze.  with hopes that Erik heard the commotion but he was still asleep and the nurse still lay bloody on the concrete floor. Kali looked out the window again only to crouch quickly when a figure leapt up to look in from the other side. “Hopefully,” she thought, “he didn’t see her.”
“Hey, guys I think I found her,” said the young voice to the others on the roof.
“Doesn’t matter, ” said one of the others, “we have fresh meals all in this house. Tony says its a safe house. Let’s go.”
“..but guys,” the young voice protested.
“Come on, dumbass. If you did find her they won’t go very far. Their stuck in a garage.”
“Fine but its your ass.” Kali watched as a young man, not too much older then her leapt from the ground and onto the first-story roof of the house. He then disappeared threw the broken window. The others followed and Kali had to wake Erik.

  • Ugh… feel like a train pummeled my face…

How is a writer supposed to do anything when he feels like this.  I even have most of it written out…. but anyways.  I’m still excited over the pace that this new story at City of Zombies is going.  I’ve also met an old friend who is a fan of world building.  He could help me with this story on this blog.  This world is starting really good but it really hit a wall when I realized how much work will have to go into continuing the story.  I just told the Writers group about it and they sounded excited.  I need to get back to it

  • Short, quick paragraph 1

The cold air blew through the hidden cracks in the room.  If Sam wanted to become a psychopath he could search the room for each individual chilly escape of air but this was only a hotel room.  A cheap one at that but he would have to deal with it. “Well at least I won’t need to sleep tonight,” he said to himself.

  • Goals Nov. 5th

I am at a good pace on City of Zombies.  Looks like 300 to 500 words per post but its only one a week.  I would like to increase the number of posts.  I would like to pass 70,000 words by the end of the year

  • We are all dogs

The first of my new blogs starting right now.  I need to write some new poetry.  I haven’t done it in over a decade.  I have no idea how to start.. What to start with?

uMmmm..ummm… my youngest daughter sings as she plays with our small dog.  Two creatures so different but so connected.  It interesting how important dogs have become in our life and how passionate we are about them.  Question, do we ever judge them because they are not loyal?  No religious enough.  Do we get mad because they do believe the same as us?  They can’t talk to us but many times we can’t talk to each other.  Have you ever tried to speak to someone who knows you only a little and explain an opinion?  An experience?  I’ve explained many things to my older dog, a boxer.  I tell him things knowing he will not respond.  I know he may not understand me but I just enjoy speaking to him.  Seeing that compassion within his eyes.  Knowing that this creature, not religious, not human will never.. ever let me down.  He cares about me and I care about him.  A loyal companion, now bring this back to humans.  I understand that people are passionate about things.  I am passionate about things but why can’t we be compassionate at the same time.  Instead of laying tracks over everyone and running a train through any dreams that are not similar we could maneuver.. anyways that’s my thought

  • I want a new Blog.. not really just a place to free-write and journal write

Making this my personal blog.  I’m going to re-target my posts to be more personal.  I have The City of Zombies to post my stories on and if I can put together something good for the Train story I’m going to create another blog for that.  I’m hoping to build a readership that enjoys and shares my enthusiasm for telling a story.

  • Depressed? Don’t shoot yourself fight zombies in Kingsboro

Zombie suicide can be done in many ways.  Erik decided he was going to fight to the death.  He paid the guards outside of Kingsboro a thousand dollars each and drove through the barricade.  Inside his old Mustang sat a 12-pack of beer, a stack of hooked chains and a baseball bat his father had given him in 1978.  He tore open the box that held the beer and opened the first can.  The infected zone was a mile ahead of him and he figured he could get in 2 to 3 beers before he met his first zombie.  He drank not because it was his last day on earth but because the beer soothed him.

Erik’s situation was not unique, alcoholism shot up after the infection began in Kingsboro.  The feeling of dread got most but Erik’s alcoholism started a long time ago.  His family had long since abandoned him, well except for his father.  His father stood behind him until his death nearly a week ago.  The final straw that tore the sanity from Erik’s long wavering psyche.

The infection raced through Kingsboro two months ago.  It started at a research office park then spread to the hospital.  Once at the hospital the infection spread though out the death and destruction that it brought.  The victims fell then rose minutes later.  The zombie infection was quick and took over the small city within a week.  The Federal government set up the parameter in a successful attempt to contain it.  The suicides began almost immediately.  A few federal guards with a need for cash made it a booming black market business.  The cause of the infection was never discovered but Erik was going to stumble into something he and the rest of the world would never forget.
